Grammatical methods and their meanings in the hadith "Do not envy one another"

Abstract

This research aims to study the grammatical methods contained in the noble Prophetic hadith, "Do not envy one another," and analyze them in terms of structure, composition, and meaning. The focus was on the prohibitive style, given its effect in indicating prohibition or dislike, depending on the context. The hadith clearly directs against envy, describing it as a behavior that is religiously and morally reprehensible, The verb form "they envied" was also analyzed in terms of its being in the form of "tafa'ala", which indicates sharing and exchange, which reinforces the warning meaning and shows the danger of the spread of this behavior in Islamic society. Grammatical methods are not used randomly in the prophetic text; rather, they contribute precisely to expressing the legislative objectives, The research concluded that grammatical analysis is not separate from semantics; rather, it is an effective tool in revealing the rhetorical and semantic depth of the Prophetic hadiths.

This study emphasizes that understanding Islamic texts, especially the Prophetic Hadith, requires a holistic view that doesn't separate grammar from semantics, as each complements the other and illuminates hidden aspects that may be overlooked by a superficial understanding. Recognizing this deep-rooted relationship contributes to deepening our understanding of the rhetorical miracles of the Prophetic Sunnah and enhances our ability to derive sublime rulings and meanings that uplift societies. The grammatical styles contained in the noble Hadith "Do not envy" were examined and analyzed semantically and grammatically, highlighting the grammatical functions that serve the general meaning of the Hadith, such as prohibition, negation, conjunction, and others. Therefore, the grammatical analysis revealed that the prohibition style in "Do not envy" carries the connotation of warning and deterrence, and is not merely a request to desist.
