Abstract

The importance of this research lies in providing comprehensive information about the role of cleanliness in ancient Iraqi civilization, highlighting it's significance as a central social and religious value. It addresses the concept of cleanliness from a holistic perspective , encompassing the cleaning of public places and temples, as well as rituals associated with purity and cleanliness, The study focuses on the role of water as an essential element for cleaning, whether for removing dirt or performing religious rituals. It emphasizes the meticulous system adopted by the inhabitants of Mesopotamia to achieve clean and healthy environments , Additionally, it examines the role of religious and social institutions in promoting cleanliness practices, assigning specific tasks to workers responsible for cleaning temples and public areas, reflecting advanced social organization. The research also highlights the tools used, such as clay pipes for water drainage and the use of fragrant scents to add a symbolic and spiritual dimension to the cleaning process, The study underscores the spiritual aspect of cleanliness, considering it a prerequisite for the acceptance of religious rituals, including purifying statues and floors with sacred water before celebrations.
