Educational experts indicate that drug abuse is a sign of dysfunction within the prevailing educational and cultural system, as it represents a clear deviation from the correct educational path, particularly in dealing with psychological and social pressures. This phenomenon is closely linked to the family's stability and its ability to cope with various challenges and pressures. In this context, the family's loss of some of its educational roles raises fundamental questions about the reasons for the spread of drug abuse, especially since the family is considered the first line of defense for protecting children from social dangers and deviance.
The family plays a fundamental role in preventing drug abuse through continuous monitoring, raising awareness of the dangers of addiction, and creating a stable environment that reduces the likelihood of engaging in harmful behaviors. From this perspective, the current study aimed to investigate the level of social responsibility among students' parents regarding the problem of drug abuse.
The study employed structured interviews as its data collection tool, conducting interviews with a sample of 100 parents of both genders and from varying educational backgrounds. The results showed that 80% of the parents
Parents are aware of the dangers of drug use among students, while only 40% of mothers are aware of the issue, indicating that 60% of mothers are unaware of the scale and severity of the problem. The study also revealed that 45% of parents believe the family does not bear full responsibility for curbing drug use. A number of possible reasons for this perception were identified, including:
- 1-Parents being preoccupied and neglecting their children, as children spend most of their time at school or in tutoring centers.
2-Parents having less authority than teachers.
3-Teachers having a higher level of social awareness than parents.
4-The perception that drug use among students occurs in schools, not at home
