Abstract

This study aims to illuminate the Bani Ghani dialect through a comprehensive linguistic analysis, positing that dialects constitute a vital resource for investigating phonetic evolution within the Arabic language. The significance of this research lies in its multidimensional examination of the dialect, encompassing phonological, lexical, morphological, and syntactic aspects, thereby contributing to the understanding of language development and the preservation of cultural identity.

The primary objectives of the study are to document the Bani Ghani dialect, analyze its linguistic features, and highlight the region's cultural identity alongside diachronic dialectal changes across generations. This endeavor seeks to enrich studies in philology and dialectology while documenting folk heritage. Methodologically, the research adopts a descriptive approach to depict and analyze linguistic phenomena, referencing both classical and contemporary historical and grammatical texts.

The study is structured into an introduction and two main sections. The first section explores the historical background of Pre-Islamic (Jahili) dialects, focusing on their diversity within the Arabian Peninsula and the major dialects of the Quraysh, Tamim, and Hudhayl tribes. It examines phonetic phenomena such as imāla (vowel inclination), substitution, and variations in the pronunciation of Ḍād and Ẓāʾ. Furthermore, it discusses syntactic variations among tribes and the influence of these dialects on Pre-Islamic poetry and subsequent Quranic readings (Qira'at). This section also addresses the Bani Ghani dialect as an extension of the Banu Hilal dialect, its societal impact, and the importance of its study, highlighting prominent poets such as Al-Tufail Al-Ghanawi and Ka'b bin Sa'd Al-Ghanawi. The second section investigates specific linguistic phenomena within the Bani Ghani dialect, covering phonological, morphological, syntactic, semantic, stylistic, and lexical features, supported by illustrative examples. The research concludes with a summary of key findings and a list of references.
