Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive critical analysis of the positions and personality of Christ as addressed by the Iraqi writer Ahmad Ismail Al-Basri in his works. Christ, being a central figure in many Abrahamic religions, has sparked significant debate throughout history regarding his actions and character. Al-Basri’s critique offers a unique perspective on Christ, which transcends traditional and theological interpretations, making this study highly significant. The research aims to analyze and deconstruct this critique to understand the underlying motivations and evaluate its impact on contemporary understanding of Christ’s personality. Additionally, the research highlights the importance of this study within the Iraqi religious and cultural context and explores how these critiques have been received by academic and religious circles. The study is divided into two main sections: the first focuses on Al-Basri’s critique of Christ’s position in religious and historical texts, while the second examines his critique of Christ’s personality as a religious and cultural symbol. By utilizing contemporary Arabic sources and references, the research aims to offer a critical perspective on the intellectual and theological aspects of Al-Basri’s propositions.

By criticizing Christ's stance on religious corruption, it is shown that Christ did not take radical steps to reform corrupt religious institutions, making his attempts at reform appear ineffective. This criticism reflects the need for a religious vision that combines spirituality with the practical work of reform.
