Abstract

The research deals with the nature of American policy towards Sudan during the era of US President George Bush during the period (1989-1993), as the rule of the American president coincided with a military coup in Sudan in the same year carried out by the Salvation Front and Omar al-Bashir took power in the country, and yet a war occurred. The second Gulf in 1991 after Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990, and then the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, after which the settlement conferences for the Palestinian issue took place (1991-1993). Accordingly, the American administration had adopted a policy of toughness with Sudan after it had become the sole pole in the world. I believed that the coup in Sudan conflicted with democracy , At a time when South Sudan was going through civil wars, which aroused the ire of the United States of America, whose relationship with Sudan had witnessed tension throughout the term of President George Bush. The Bush administration's adoption of a harsh policy against Sudan was aimed at reducing the influence of the Salvation Front's rule in Sudan, as the Front's orientations were Islamic, which the American administration rejected, although there was a Christian lobby and pressure groups in the United States that played a role in pressuring the Bush administration to adopt a firm policy towards Sudan, especially since Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir came from the military establishment, and his Islamic orientations within the Salvation Front prompted the Bush administration to adopt a firm policy towards it. Based on this data, the Sudanese government was in an unenviable position with the increase in American pressure on it, but it was able to confront the American pressure wisely, and the Sudanese government's condition continued throughout the term of the US President George Bush's administration.
