Abstract

This research aims to show the critical mentality of (Hussam al-Din al-Sighnaqi) (DOB. 714 A.H), in his book (AL-Moassil fi Sharhi AL-Mofassil), and his grammatical thought, which absorbed the opinions of his predecessors, addressing their issues and opinions with criticism and guidance, which, if anything, indicates his scientific ability and intellectual giving, not to mention his self-confidence and pride in his opinion, and these qualities appeared in his use of critical words and phrases indicating acceptance and approval, rejection and weakening. I have divided this research into a preface and two researches. As for the preface, I dealt with the concept of criticism in language and terminology, the life of the author and his book, and the two researches, the first was devoted to Al-Sughnaki's approach to grammatical criticism, and the second to the areas of his criticism, and it is worth mentioning that the issues I mentioned in the areas of his criticism were selectively, due to the lack of space. It has been shown that preference, disagreements, choices, responses and objections are special critical phenomena that fall under the general framework of grammatical criticism. It has been shown that Al-Saghnaqi, in his critical judgments, was Basran in thought, so he leaned towards the Basran school, and this appeared clearly in the frequency with which he accepted and supported those opinions and preferred them over the doctrine of the Kufi school. However, it is worth mentioning that he relied on the foundations of the principles of grammar, so his judgments were objective, and this was not hidden in the issue of the related noun in the predicate of a quasi-sentence when the opinion of Sibawayh and Ibn al-Sarraj weakened.
