Abstract

Through a quantitative study of the historical narratives in Sibṭ Ibn al-Jawzī's book Mirror of Time in the History of Notables for the period 614-621 AH / 1217-1224 AD, the significance of the subject became evident. The historical accounts presented by Sibṭ Ibn al-Jawzī in his book Mirror of Time carry a degree of credibility, trustworthiness, and clarity, as they were recorded by a contemporary and eyewitness to most of the events. Sibṭ Ibn al-Jawzī provided valuable historical material for the period 614-621 AH / 1217-1224 AD, documenting what he saw with his own eyes, what he heard, and what he accessed from official documents and personal correspondence. He recorded approximately 124 historical accounts covering various aspects, including political, military, social, economic, administrative, architectural, and cultural dimensions. He placed particular emphasis on the military aspect due to the frequent battles between the Islamic forces and the Crusaders.
