Abstract

Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the foundations of Arab criticism have been influenced by the dominant trends in Europe. Critical schools emerged within modern Arab criticism and influenced the renewal of the concept of literary criticism. Critical studies have been influenced by foreign literature, especially modern Western trends. Western influence was not limited to Egypt and the Maghreb, but extended to the Arab diaspora. Arab comparative studies emerged thanks to Western influence, and the scope of this field subsequently expanded. Arab critics were influenced by Western literary schools and made valuable contributions to the criticism of Arabic literature. It is clear that Arab criticism has been influenced by Western criticism and drawn from it new ideas and methods. However, it has not neglected the ancient critical and literary heritage and has been able to combine authenticity and modernity in literary studies. Literary criticism is a vital tool for analyzing texts and understanding their meanings within their historical and social contexts. Therefore, the challenges facing critics in our current era require the development of new methods for engaging with texts. These studies employ a variety of tools, including postcolonial theory, feminist theory, and cultural criticism, to offer new insights that contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of literature and its value in an era characterized by rapid change. In addition, understanding literature from a critical perspective requires flexibility of thought and an ability to accommodate cultural and linguistic differences. This research highlights the need for an ongoing dialogue between texts and criticism, as literary dimensions interact with critical theses, generating new practices that help enrich literature as a field of human expression.
