This research addresses a delicate aspect of the science of hadith, shedding light on the narrations narrated by Muawiyah ibn Salih from Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal in the chapter on criticism and validation. This chapter is one of the most important branches of the science of rijal, which is concerned with documenting narrators and determining their integrity or discredit, to ensure the authenticity of prophetic hadiths.
The research seeks to collect the narrations narrated by Muawiyah ibn Salih from Imam Ahmad, critically analyze them, and demonstrate the extent to which hadith scholars rely on them and their influence in judging narrators. The research also discusses the personality of Muawiyah ibn Salih, his scholarly standing, and his approach to transmitting Imam Ahmad's sayings. It also examines the accuracy of these narrations by comparing them with what is mentioned in other books on criticism and validation. This research critically examines the narrations of Muawiyah ibn Salih from Imam Ahmad. I collected all of Muawiyah's narrations from his sheikh, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and then conducted a comparative study with the other sayings of the scholars of hadith criticism and authentication. I found that some of the narrations were unique to Muawiyah ibn Salih from Ahmad Hanbal, while others were contradictory, and others were in agreement with the other scholars. Upon arriving at the study and conclusion, which is the final stage of the study, we reach a conclusion and a ruling on the narrator in accordance with the standards and rules of the scholars of hadith criticism and authentication, and based on what appears to us from Muawiyah ibn Salih's narrations from Ibn Ma'in and his other narrations. The research demonstrates that Muawiyah ibn Salih was an important intermediary in the transmission. The research concludes with the importance of paying attention to these narrations, given their impact on the judgment of some narrators. The researchers recommend further applied studies on the transmission of the imams' narrations of hadith criticism and authentication, as they enhance efforts to document hadith.
