Abstract

The study aimed to clarify the path of peace between Egypt and Israel, outlining the stages that led to the signing of the Camp David Accords in September 1978 and the subsequent peace treaty in March 1979. Israel was able to achieve its goal of opening a dialogue with one of the Arab countries involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict , This success weakened Arab solidarity on the Palestinian issue by removing Egypt from the scope of Arab unity, On the other hand, Algeria was one of the Arab countries opposed to Egypt's stance, striving to maintain Arab unity, believing in the Palestinian cause, and rejecting the idea of reconciliation with Israe, The nature of the study required following the historical method, which relies on presenting events according to the years in which they occurred, in addition to the analytical method, through which the study reached a set of conclusions.

The significant role played by the United States in achieving the goals of the peace process, exemplified by the intensive diplomatic efforts led by Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, is reflected in the fact that Israel obstructed negotiations with Egypt, awaiting US intervention, which occurred whenever talks between the two sides stalled. The political repercussions of the first disengagement agreement included a reduction in Soviet-Egyptian relations and the emergence of a prominent American political role in finding a solution to the Middle East conflict. The second disengagement agreement led to the deployment of US military forces to the Middle East, ostensibly to protect Israeli forces, particularly after the US was recognized as a party to the settlement, not merely a mediator.
