Syntapragmatics is a linguistic approach concerned with the study of the relationship between sentence structure and meaning, with particular emphasis on the interaction between the syntactic level and the pragmatic level. It examines how syntactic and semantic features are integrated within sentence constructions and how meaning and communicative intention are interpreted in light of contextual factors. The importance of syntapragmatics lies in its ability to clarify the functional relationship between syntactic form and pragmatic interpretation in the production and understanding of meaning within discourse. Within this theoretical framework, the present study aims to investigate one of the basic sentence types in Kurdish, namely the simple sentence, based on the principles of syntapragmatics. The study adopts the theoretical model of Functional Grammar proposed by Simon Dik, which provides an effective analytical framework for the analysis of sentence structures at the syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic levels. Through this model, the study seeks to demonstrate how simple Kurdish sentences convey meaning and speaker intention through the interaction of grammatical structure and contextual interpretation, thereby contributing to a more systematic understanding of sentence structure in Kurdish from a functional and pragmatic perspective. The research was conducted using Kurdish language tools, middle dialect and the boundaries of the research are simple sentences unless it is very necessary and for the purpose of further explanation other types of sentences (compound, complex) were used.
The study consists of an introduction, two parts and conclusions, as follows: Part I: Contains several topics such as the concept of syntapragmatics, the importance of syntapragmatics, and a theoretical summary of functional grammar, the Simon Dick model. The second part consists of several topics, such as the concept of simple sentences, the syntapragmatic phenomenon of simple sentences and several other topics.
Finally, the results are presented, the sources are mentioned and a summary of the research is presented in both Arabic and English.
