Abstract

Explanatory Jihad (al-jihād al-tabyīnī) is highlighted in the Qur’an as a central strategy of the prophets to confront ignorance, distortion, and doubt. The Qur’an refers to it as the “Great Jihad” (Al-Furqān: 52). This study employs a descriptive-analytical method, relying on Qur’anic verses, narrations from the infallible Imams (peace be upon them), classical exegeses, and contemporary studies, to examine the communicative and enlightening methods adopted by the prophets in practicing explanatory jihad.

Findings indicate that the prophets emphasized clarity and truthfulness, eloquence and persuasion, wisdom and good exhortation, parables and stories, patience and perseverance, warning and glad tidings, gradual clarification, and reliance on human nature and reason. They also utilized the available media of their time to guide people and strengthen faith.

These methods proved effective not only in removing ignorance in the prophets’ era but also provide a viable model for addressing modern cognitive wars, psychological operations, and media distortions. Ultimately, the aim is to enhance insight, reinforce faith, and guide humanity toward divine truth.

In the current context, where intellectual and cultural challenges are amplified by advanced media, revisiting these prophetic strategies becomes essential for empowering the Islamic nation. This research seeks to offer a practical framework for cultural and religious actors to strengthen the Islamic cultural front, safeguard it from intellectual assaults, and contribute to building a conscious and resilient society.
