Abstract

This study aims to reveal the scientific approach of the linguist Mazhar al-Din al-Zaydani in dealing with the evidence on which linguists relied in constructing their rules, especially listening, analogy, and reasoning, and to shed light on the extent of his independence or influence by those who preceded him among grammarians. The importance of the subject comes from clarifying the positions of the linguist Mazhar al-Din al-Zaydani on the evidence for constructing linguistic knowledge, by proving his opinions spread in his book Sharh Tasrif al-Badi’. The research was divided into: a brief introduction that addressed the most prominent aspects of al-Zaydani’s personal and scientific biography. Then came the first section to address his position on listening and its importance in linguistic argumentation. The second section discussed his position on analogy and reasoning. The study concluded with a conclusion that included the most prominent results reached by the research.
