Abstract

This research provides a geographical analysis of the area and production of cereal crops in Anbar Governorate, to reveal the distribution of cereal crops for the 2023 agricultural season, based on the size of the cultivated area and the production quantity of each crop. The study addressed cereal crops according to their seasons and classification, represented by (wheat, barley, yellow and white corn, mung bean, and millet), at the administrative unit level. The area cultivated with these crops amounted to (742,091) dunums, led by wheat, accounting for (82.2%) of the total area cultivated with cereal crops, due to its strategic importance and the state's support for its cultivation. The remaining percentage was distributed among other crops, with (12.7%) for yellow corn, (4.7%) for barley, (0.2%) for white corn, and (0.1%) for mung bean and millet, respectively. Wheat also topped the list in terms of production quantity, amounting to (538,592.1) tons, with a percentage of (72.2%) of the total production of cereal crops.

The surface of the study area is characterized by complete flatness and a slight slope, which made it suitable for agricultural investment in terms of digging irrigation canals and using agricultural machinery of all kinds, as grain crops are among the important food crops in the study area, as it has large areas that qualify it to be one of the promising agricultural areas if the required capabilities for growing grains are available in it.
