The problem of water pollution in the greater Zab River in Khabat district

the main goal of the research is to study the problem of water pollution of the greater Zab in Khabat district of Erbil governorate in the Kurdistan region of Iraq by evaluation six locations in the river and examining a total of 6 samples taken from the river water distributed along it’s length in the district and then examining in the laboratory to identify the physical water characteristics such as color ,temperature and chemical properties such as salinity and degree of reactivity and positive and negative ions, and also biological characteristics of the samples to determine their contamination with bacteria, the result showed that the water was physically polluted a color appeared in the water and it also had an unpleasant smell with the presence of bacteria in the water and this is evidence of its bacterial contamination ,in addition to the high of some chemical properties internationally and locally permissible limits .to achieve the research objective it was divided into three main sections the first section includes an introduction to the subject of the study and the study area, the second section includes the characteristics of the greater Zab river water in the district ,and third section includes ways to address the problem of water pollution along with conclusions and recommendations.
