Objectives: The aim of this research is to study the industrial relations that existed between the Iraqi government and the German Democratic Republic, as well as industrial plans and methods for developing this sector through agreements and protocols, as well as reciprocal visits between the two sides and joint reports.
Methodology: The study method was based on collecting information from work programs and introductory tables, through which the organization, arrangement, and writing were carried out.
Results: The relations that existed between Iraq and the German Democratic Republic present us with a model of political, industrial, economic, agricultural, and cultural relations, as well as all other areas, which contributed effectively to the advancement of the existing reality in Iraq through the transfer of ideas and experiences, as well as goods, equipment, and machinery from the German Democratic Republic.
Conclusion: The study revealed that industrial relations between the two sides were among the most important relationships existing between the two governments, compared to relations with other sectors. Strong and close ties existed within the industrial sector, evidenced by the agreements and protocols concluded, in addition to the exchange of visits between the two sides. During this period, many important industrial projects were established, including oil refineries for the production of petroleum derivatives, cement factories, and various types of chemical fertilizers, such as phosphate and nitrogen fertilizers, in addition to the extraction of sulfur from local mines. Petrochemical plants were also established to produce ethylene and polyethylene, and to develop the sponge iron industry. The importance of these industries lies in their reliance on local raw materials, which increases the chances of self-sufficiency and reduces dependence on foreign imports. This represents a strategic step towards sustainable industrial development in Iraq, which positively reflects on the growth, development, and prosperity of the Iraqi economy.
