This study aims to present a comparative philosophical analysis of two prominent contemporary thinkers: Jurgen Habermas and Karl-Otto Apel. The focus is on the concept of “Communicative Action” as central themes in both of their projects. Habermas critiques instrumental reason as a root cause of the modernity crisis and proposes in Communication. Mutual understanding and dialogue. His theory of communicative action serves as acritical response to reconstruct the link between language, reason, ane ethics.
Apel, on the other hand, develops his theory of “Transcendental Pragmatics” which seeks to integrate Kantian normative thinking with discursive ethics, where rational argumentation becomes the foundation for truth and moral norms. He argues that every communicative act implicitly assumes mutual responsibility and recognition of the other, there by granting it a transcendental normative dimension.
The research also explores the philosophical roots of communicative action in the works of kant and peirce, and highlights its practical applications in addressing contemporary issues such as global justice, intercultural dialogue, digital public spheres, and identity. The study emphasizes the complementarity of Habermasʼs deliberative framework and Apelʼs normative foundation in developing a universal communicative rationality suited for modern societies.
