Conversational Implicature in the Quranic Text: An Applied Study of Verses from Surah Maryam

This research focuses on the phenomenon of conversational implicature in the Quranic discourse by attempting to uncover the implications of implicit meanings in the text. It analyzes and clarifies the implied meanings derived from certain linguistic structures (informative and per formative) while considering the importance of the relationship between the speaker and the addressee and the contextual framework in which they occur. Discovering implicit meaning requires reliance on context and discourse principles. Therefore, implicature moves beyond the literal meanings of the text indicated by rhetorical devices to other meanings suggested by contextual cues related to the discourse and situation. The phenomenon of implication is replete with rhetorical devices, both imperative and non-imperative, such as questions, exclamations, and exclamations. However, depending on the context of the text, these devices have shifted to meanings not inherent in the original request, but rather to meanings imposed by the dialogue within the text, such as inquiry, exaggeration in denial, condemnation, and others. This demonstrates the eloquence of the Quran and the sources of its miraculous nature, where a single word can refer to multiple meanings according to the demands of the context without altering or distorting its true meaning. This proves the miraculous nature of the Holy Quran in its composition. Furthermore, the context plays a crucial role in revealing the true meaning that is inferred from implication, removing ambiguity and obscurity in order to clarify the speaker's intentions and deliver the message more flexibly to the recipient.
