Abstract

This research seeks to find out one of the phenomena of the Arabic language, which is the phenomenon of assimilation in the sounds of this language, in terms of its interest in sounds and their influence on each other. In turn, it leads to the phonemic harmony between the sounds of the language. This research has shown that adjacent voices differ in the percentage of their influence among them, as it may not be more than that one of the voices loses some of its qualities to converge or harmonize with the qualities of the sounds adjacent to it, and this influence may reach that this sound perishes by a neighboring sound, leaving it in no way. And this annihilation is what the scholars have termed “al-dghham”. Which is one of the prominent acoustic phenomena. The scholars of Arabic in general and the scholars of intonation and language in Andalusia in particular were interested in it, because of its importance in the linguistic lesson, especially in the Qur’anic readings and the science of intonation. Its importance lies in getting rid of the weight that makes pronunciation light on the tongues, and contributes to achieving vocal harmony and shortening the muscular effort. They studied the letters’ exits and their qualities as an introduction to studying the phenomenon of assimilation in order to distinguish between similar and convergent letters in the exit or adjective, because they saw that studying the letters’ exits and their qualities is necessary to understand the phenomenon of assimilation. The scholars of intonation and language in Andalusia dealt with inclusion, but the scholars of intonation have dealt with it more broadly and more accurately than linguists to the extent that they excelled in absorbing all forms of assimilation according to the type of influence. As for the linguists, their talk was limited to combining similar and convergent ones, in order to get rid of the heavy weight that accompanied the pronunciation of the two and the convergent ones. The scholars of Andalusia also dealt with the issue of strength and weakness in detail, and Makki Al-Qaisi is considered the oldest who spoke on this subject and elaborated on it, as he developed its theory, and many of those who came after him followed him. The research clarified the vocal impurities that are caused to some sounds due to proximity, such as loudness and whispering, occlusal and opening, and nasal. This indicates the delicate sense and careful observation that the scholars of Andalusia enjoyed.
