Social values in the poetry of Al-Muhalhal bin Rabia (531 AH) in light of the social approach

Abstract

Social values are among the basic pillars upon which society is built, and they reflect the depth of morals that people inherit from generation to generation. Accordingly, this research studies (social values in the poetry of Al-Muhalhal bin Abi Rabi’ah - generosity and courage - as an example) He is one of the poets of the pre-Islamic era, as he addressed in his poetry the values that were prevalent in his time. However, the research focused on highlighting two basic values: generosity and chivalry, due to their prominent presence, which formed the essence of ancient Arab society. He was known for his generosity and dedication to serving his people without waiting. In contrast, courage was evident in combat situations, as he faced death in defense of dignity. His loyalty was clear in his devotion to his brother Kulayb’s cause and his long quest for revenge. Al-Muhalhal expressed these values not only in words, but also in his lively behavior that remained a symbol of heroism and noble character. The nature of the collected material required dividing the research into an introduction In two chapters, the introduction dealt with the concept of social values, with a brief overview of the poet’s life. The first chapter studied generosity, and the second chapter dealt with courage. The research relied on the analytical method.
