Abstract

The outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war had great repercussions in the newspapers of the Arabian Gulf due to the proximity of the Gulf countries to its developments, and the desire of the Gulf public opinion to know its events as a regional event that affected the Gulf countries. Based on that, the news columns of the Gulf newspapers were filled with news of the war and its military developments and followed the Pakistani diplomatic efforts and the mediation it carried out to stop the war. The Kuwaiti newspapers Al-Qabas and Al-Rai Al-Aam were chosen to study the Pakistani mediation to stop the war, as they are the newspapers most interested in and monitoring Pakistan’s position on the war. The editorials of the two daily newspapers were not devoid of news of the war that topped the headlines of their news bulletins. The two newspapers shed their media light on Pakistan’s diplomatic moves seeking to put an end to the war. In addition, the correspondents of Al-Qabas and Al-Rai Al-Aam newspapers had a field presence to know the results of Pakistan’s mediation to stop the Iran-Iraq war. The correspondents of the two newspapers recorded press interviews with influential figures, in which they asked questions to clarify Pakistan’s position on the war, and what  The extent of the warring parties’ response to the diplomatic efforts to put an end to the war. The study identified the period between 1980 and 1981 as the period after which mediation activity stopped and it failed to stop the war.
