Abstract

This study is based on the representation of the artistic image and its connotations in the poetry collection (An Attempt to Create a Cloud) by the Iraqi poet Ibrahim Mustafa Al-Hamad, and on identifying the poet’s ability to use artistic images and their types to shape his poetic texts and decorate them with an aesthetic appearance capable of attracting the recipient and winning him over to read and appreciate his poems.

This study aims to examine the artistic image in contemporary Iraqi poetry and his ability to activate the role of the image and employ it artistically in his poems. This requires him to resort to a set of mechanisms that enable him to form the image and benefit from it in embodying his poetic experiences.

The research was divided into an introduction and four sections. In the introduction, the research discussed the image, its concept and types. In the first section, the research dealt with the auditory image and explained its multiple connotations. In the second section, it discussed the color image and the significance of using colors in Al-Hamd’s poetry. As for the third section, it was devoted to studying the symbolic image to explain the symbol and its connotations in the poet’s poetry. As for the fourth section, the research studied the metaphorical image to explain the role that metaphor played in portraying the poet’s experience. In the conclusion, the research recorded the most important results it reached.
