Economic Implications in the Fadak Sermon: An Analytical Study

Abstract

The Arabian Peninsula witnessed historical events that played a major role in raising the status of some of its cities. With the rise of the authentic Muhammadan religion, the Hijaz, especially Mecca and Medina, became one of the most important cities about which historians, philosophers, travelers and writers wrote a great deal, for without it it would not have been of any importance.             Since the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) lived in those cities, she must have known those lands. When she mentioned the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula with some descriptions, she unveiled a period of time in which opposites came together. Some say that its people used to travel to countries with their trade, while others tell us that their trade did not go beyond the borders of their cities, and they did not leave them except with a guard.

            Based on this, I titled the research: (Economic Implications in the Fadak Sermon: An Analytical Study). The first section is titled: Historical Economic Implications, meaning those implications that took on a historical dimension, thus unveiling a period of time in which the waves of historical narratives swirled. I named the second section: Legal Economic Implications, due to its inclusion of a legal character. The research reached several conclusions, the foremost of which are:

            The economic, legislative, and historical concepts mentioned in the Fadak sermon revealed an economic reality that prevailed during that period, different from what is commonly known. This is the reason for choosing this research. The economic contents mentioned by Fatima (peace be upon her) have economic implications, in addition to being a protest against the people. On this basis, we will highlight the economic dimensions contained in the sermon, taking into consideration its apparent meaning and what it aimed at in other meanings. Herein lies the importance of the research. The researcher followed the descriptive and analytical method in presenting the historical information, and relied on many historical sources and references that enriched the research, which were recorded in the special list. Our final supplication is that all praise is due to God, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be upon the best of mankind, Muhammad, and his noble family.
