Abstract

Abstract

This research highlights the geomorphological assessment for tourism development in Akre District, aiming to identify the natural potential of landforms and the obstacles hindering the growth of the tourism sector in the region. Due to its geographical location in mountainous areas with elevations ranging from 228 to 1926 meters above sea level, Akre District possesses a rich geomorphological diversity. This is evident in mountain ranges such as (Sari Akre, Peris, and Sada), deep valleys like (Zenta and Dupre), and hydro-geomorphological features including waterfalls (Akre Sipa and Bijil) and natural springs.

Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the study concludes that despite these unique natural capabilities, tourism in Akre remains seasonal and makeshift, failing to become a stable economic resource. The primary reasons include poor tourism infrastructure, a lack of modern services near natural sites, and the neglect of the scientific and historical value of caves (such as Gondik and Divre caves). The research proposes several practical solutions, including: constructing road networks and cable cars (teleferics), investing in winter tourism on Mount Peris, and transforming caves into natural museums and cultural centers. These factors collectively aim to transform Akre District into a strategic tourism hub at the level of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
