The Narrative Technique in Ahlam Mansour’s Novel “Alwan”

Abstract

In general, the emergence of any new literary phenomenon is the first reason and the main source of the need for the birth and change of criticism of the same phenomenon or new genre and subject. In the sense that literary criticism is always related to something else called literary works without literary works we will never have anything called literary criticism because criticism is not a creative process always works on the body of the text Therefore, we see that the emergence of novel criticism appeared much later due to the late emergence of this genre in Kurdish literature. This study aims to analyze and evaluate the narrative technique in Ahlam Mansour’s novel Alwan, which presents a portrayal of social life in the city of Khanaqin during a specific historical period. Employing an analytical critical approach, the study examines the structure and methods of narration in the novel and identifies their relationship to content, characters, time, setting, and events. It also evaluates the work as a regional novel situated within the framework of critical realism, highlighting several social issues, including class inequality, oppression of women, poverty, and the authority of aghas and feudal lords. At the same time, the study points to certain artistic weaknesses, particularly in character construction and the logic underlying some events. It concludes that narrative technique plays a fundamental role in the novel’s artistic structure and constitutes an important means of conveying the author’s vision and message.
