Abstract

This study seeks to explore the aesthetics of simile in the didactic poetry of Jamil Sidqi al-Zahawi. Simile is widely recognized as one of the most distinguished forms of Arabic expression, embodying insight, ingenuity, and eloquence. It constitutes a fundamental pillar of Arabic rhetoric, a principal source of the beauty of discourse, a vehicle for conveying subtle and refined meanings, and a means of attaining the various arts of eloquent expression. This is because simile enhances meaning by rendering it clearer, more vivid, and more emphatic, while at the same time stirring the emotions of the audience and arousing their interest.and Didactic poetry is a form of poetry whose primary purpose is to educate and instruct people. It encompasses moral, religious, philosophical, and educational themes in general.Arabic poetry is characterized by its aesthetic and artistic features, especially modern poetry. Artistic aesthetics include all the rhetorical arts that poets employ to embody meanings in a tangible way; they elevate the level of poetry and enhance its impact on the audience's psyche. Therefore, poets have actively used these techniques in their poetry, each in his own way. Among the prominent contemporary poets who focused on the issues and concerns of the nation was Jamil Sidqi al-Zahawi, who tried to utilize rhetorical arts, especially the art of simile, to enrich his poetry and craft its aesthetic imagery according to his meanings and imagination. In this research, we aimed to study his poetry to reveal the beauty of similes in their various types, using a descriptive-analytical approach.Our study concluded that artistic aesthetics are varied in his poetry, with the arts of simile standing out in its different forms: eloquent, extended, affirmed, and detailed...
