Abstract

The studies that are related to the economic characteristics are one of the main foundations of planning and human geography. They help understanding social and spatial imbalances. In addition to the factors affecting the distribution of income and economic opportunities, the importance of spatial analysis lies in linking economic and spatial characteristics. This paves the way of the identification of spatial patterns of employers, the unemployed, dependants, family size, personal income, poverty, total wages, and the percentage of tenants. This is achieved through geographic information systems (GIS) and their technologies in the process of processing and analyzing information and arriving at results. This process requires information on economic characteristics. We relied on and applied a systematic random sample. We conducted this study in the city of Bardarash, the center of Bardarash district in the southwest of Duhok Governorate, located at longitudes (°43.61.99 - °43.56.40) degrees east and latitudes (°36.51.85 - °36.48.90) degrees north. We relied on the descriptive and analytical approach to collect and classify information, as well as to determine the shapes and maps to arrive at the best possible formulation of the economic characteristics and how to divide them at the neighborhood level in the city.

The area of Bardarash city in 2024 is (818) hectares. The city's population is (40,282) people, and the number of families is (7,899). The sample size we took is (800), and it was divided equally among all the city's neighborhoods according to each neighborhood's percentage of the total population.

The results of the study showed that the percentage of workers in the city reaches (36.5%) of the working class, and the unemployment rate reaches (13.5%). The largest percentage of the working class is employed by civil servants, followed by the military sector. In addition, the largest families are in the (Bahar) neighborhood, consisting of (13) people, and the smallest are in the (Farmanbaran) neighborhood, with (2.7) people per family. The highest rate of personal income is in the neighborhood of (Farmanbaran, Azadi, and Bardarash- i Nwe), and the lowest is in the neighborhood of (Kani Hasinah), which is only (95) thousand dinars for one person.
