Abstract

The importance of the research is to provide comprehensive information that addresses the subject of scenes of a bull and a cow on both types of flat seals, flat seals in the form of statues, and flat seals with geometric shapes, as both the bull and the cow appeared in most of the scenes of the first type of flat seals in a sitting position on all four limbs. As for flat seals in the form of geometric shapes, the bull appeared in various artistic subjects. It was depicted in religious scenes and conflict scenes, as well as in composite creatures. At other times, the bull was depicted standing on its four limbs or while jumping. As for the cow in this type of seals, she was sometimes depicted giving birth and at other times breastfeeding her newborn in the field. The artistic themes that were depicted on the flat seals in the form of statues and in the form of geometric shapes reflect the artistic style in which these scenes were executed. Sometimes they were executed in a poor style that the ancient Iraqi artist did not pay attention to. The attention necessary for the scene to appear beautifully and clearly. At other times, the artist is interested in executing the artistic scene accurately and clearly, so he is keen to show some details in the bull and the cow in a way that adds more aesthetics and realism to their bodies in those artistic scenes executed on the surfaces of flat seals. In general, these artistic scenes reflect the extent to which The importance of both the bull and the cow in the religious and economic life of the ancient Iraqis.
