The position of Kurdish representatives on the use of the Kurdish language in the lectures of the Iraqi Parliament during the royal era

Abstract

The issue of education in the Kurdish language in the Kurdish regions of Iraq during the royal era received wide attention from Kurdish representatives. This issue was discussed on more than one occasion in the sessions of the Iraqi Parliament, especially since education in the Kurdish language did not receive sufficient attention from successive Iraqi governments. After the end of the British mandate, these governments began to follow a unified policy in education throughout Iraq. They tried to give education a purely Arab character. Because of this chauvinistic policy, these representatives demanded in their speeches during the council sessions the necessity of paying attention to the educational reality and making the Kurdish language an official language in the Kurdish regions, as well as making the curricula and textbooks in the Kurdish language. This study consists of three axes, a conclusion, and a list of references. The first axis addressed the emergence of parliamentary life in Iraq during the royal era, where it dealt with the beginnings of Iraqis’ acquaintance with parliamentary life.

The third axis dealt with the position of the Kurdish representatives on the issue of using the Kurdish language in the minutes of the Iraqi Parliament, where it shed light on the role of the Kurdish representatives and their attempts to make the Kurdish language an official language in schools, as they demanded, through the Council sessions, attention to the Kurdish language and making it an official language in schools and opening a translation and authorship house to translate books into the Kurdish language.
