The Effectiveness of the Six-Dimensional Strategy on First-Year Intermediate Students' Achievement in Social Studies and Environmental Citizenship Development

Abstract

The aim of the research is to investigate the effectiveness of the six-dimensions strategy in the achievement of first-year middle school students in the subject of social studies and the development of environmental citizenship. The experimental approach was adopted and applied to a sample of (66) students, distributed between two equal groups: an experimental group that studied using the (PDEODE) strategy, and a control group that studied using the usual method. Equivalence was achieved between the two groups in some variables. An achievement test consisting of (40) multiple-choice items was prepared. An environmental citizenship scale consisting of (40) items with three alternatives (always, often, sometimes) was prepared. Validity, reliability and psychometric properties were applied to the tools. The results showed the superiority of the experimental group over its traditional counterpart in the achievement test and the environmental citizenship scale. The researcher recommended benefiting from the six-dimensions strategy in the development plans for educational programs and curricula through Including it in social studies curricula, and spreading the culture of environmental citizenship among the various educational levels when studying social studies, in order to achieve the required awareness. The Six-Dimensions Strategy provided students with extensive knowledge and improved their academic achievement. The Six-Dimensions Strategy provided students with a wealth of environmental citizenship values ​​in its various fields, which in turn contributed to building a strong foundation for them to instill the foundations of human values ​​in their souls through sound environmental behaviors.

The Six-Dimensions Strategy conceptualizes learning as a single unit with interconnected values ​​and skills, enabling students to activate their studying and improve academic achievement.

The Six-Dimensions Strategy enabled students to build a framework for practicing environmental citizenship skills, enabling them to develop a sense of responsibility in protecting the environment and practicing environmental citizenship skills.
