Abstract

Abstract: Henri Giraud was raised in a religious family, where he learned national values and a love of French soldiering. This was positively reflected in his military studies at the Saint-Cyr School in Paris. He showed great military and political determination, which won the approval of the French army's top brass after his rejection of the armistice agreement that the Vichy government concluded with Germany after the fall of France on June 14, 1940, His failed attempts to persuade its leaders to declare war against the latter, which enabled him to obtain American support, led to his transfer from the Vichy government area in southern France to its "North African colonies," and his participation in liberating them by carrying out "Operation Torch," and his leadership of the operation to liberate the island of Corsica, His participation in the Casablanca Conference against his rival, General de Gaulle, his joining the ranks of the Republican Party for Freedom, his contribution to the founding of the Fourth French Republic in 1946, and his appointment as Vice President of the Supreme War Council of the Allied Powers in Europe until his death in 1949.
