This study examines the reciprocal relationship between sustainable development, as a comprehensive conceptual framework, and the effectiveness of government policies, as a pivotal implementation tool for achieving its objectives. The study then shifts to the applied and field-based aspect, highlighting the serious economic and social repercussions of the conflict in Nineveh Governorate.
The study employed a descriptive and analytical methodology, in addition to a field study that included a survey of (100) citizens to assess the reality of reconstruction projects.
The study concluded that there is a direct correlation between government policies and the achievement of sustainable development. However, the conflict in Nineveh led to widespread destruction of infrastructure and the industrial and agricultural sectors, creating enormous challenges to reconstruction efforts and resulting in high rates of unemployment and poverty. The field survey results revealed challenges in the adequacy of allocated reconstruction funding and the need for greater community involvement to ensure the sustainability of implemented projects.
The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach to describe and interpret the relationship between the concept of sustainable development and government policies. It then employed an analytical approach to analyze the decision-making process within government policies and its various stages. The study further analyzed the causal relationship between these policies and the necessity of aligning them with the Sustainable Development Goals. Finally, it analyzed the repercussions experienced by Nineveh Governorate in two phases and their impact on reconstruction. The study was divided into two main sections: Section One: The Conceptual Framework / Sustainable Development and Government Policies; Section Two: The Economic Repercussions of the Conflict in Nineveh Governorate.
