Abstract

In the novel "Ya Maryam" by the Lebanese writer Sannan Antoine, several levels of narrative vision are employed to convey the story and deepen its meanings. The first of these levels is the personal vision, where characters narrate the events of the novel from their own perspectives, allowing the reader to understand their inner worlds and interactions with other events and characters. The second is the witnessing vision, where events and scenes are described through the eyes of a third person, providing a neutral perspective on the events and making it easier for the reader to visualize the environment and events more clearly. The third is the retrospective vision, where past events that play a significant role in understanding the overall context of the story and the development of characters are recalled. Finally, there is the symbolic vision, where specific symbols are used to enhance the meanings and core themes of the novel.

By employing these different levels of narrative vision, Antoine succeeds in creating a complex story with philosophical and human depth, addressing issues such as identity, religion, and love in an intriguing and inspiring manner for the reader. This study analyzes the novel "Ya Maryam" by Sannan Antoine, focusing on the ideological and expressive vision carried by the text. The levels of narrative vision in the novel are explored, highlighting the author's use of a variety of narrative tools such as history, internal dialogue, and psychological description. The novel demonstrates a clear ideological vision that criticizes injustice and advocates for the values of freedom and justice. Additionally, emphasis is placed on the expressive tools used to portray the psychological and spatial vision of the characters and events in the novel. Antoine manages to create a multidimensional reading experience that allows the reader to explore multiple worlds within the novel. By focusing on these levels, the reader can immerse themselves in diverse worlds and understand the characters and themes more deeply, making "Ya Maryam" not just a novel, but a rich and thought-provoking literary experience.
