Abstract

This research aims to study the sensory formation in the literature of letters during the early Abbasid era, with a more precise focus on the letters of Yahya ibn Ziyad as a model reflecting the stylistic and artistic characteristics of this literary genre. Yahya ibn Ziyad, one of the poets of the Abbasid era, is considered one of the prominent literary figures of that period, and his letters played an important role in conveying the feelings and emotions of the time. This research also relies on analyzing the letters written by Yahya ibn Ziyad, categorizing them into several themes, namely the language used, the poetic imagery, and the human emotions they reflect. Linguistically, Yahya ibn Ziyad's letters stand out for their eloquent and refined style, which combines simplicity and depth, especially as he utilized the language in a way that reveals aesthetics and expresses the psychological state of both the sender and the recipient, making use of rhetorical images that reflect personal insights and experiences. Regarding the poetic imagery, the letters demonstrate an artistic play in the use of metaphors and similes, which added a sensory dimension to the texts in general.
