This study aims to examine the concept of hijab in the Prophetic Sunnah through an analytical study of the related Islamic texts, clarifying its legislative and maqāṣid-based foundations, while discussing the most prominent contemporary interpretations and misconceptions raised about it. The research adopts the analytical method in tracing the concept of hijab linguistically and technically, analyzing the Prophetic traditions related to it, and identifying the intellectual approaches that influenced contemporary readings of the texts, particularly modernist, historicist, and feminist trends. The study also critiques the major misconceptions concerning the obligation of hijab, the claim that it is merely a cultural practice of ancient society, and the argument that it conflicts with freedom and women’s rights. The study concludes that hijab is an established Islamic ruling grounded in authentic Qur’anic and Prophetic texts, and that it constitutes part of an integrated ethical and legislative system aimed at preserving modesty and safeguarding society. The research further demonstrates that many contemporary interpretations stem from intellectual frameworks that differ from the traditional Islamic legal methodology, leading to reinterpretations detached from the legislative and maqāṣid-oriented context of the texts.
