Abstract

Mockery is a dangerous social illness that undermines the unity of the Muslim community, threatens its structure, and destabilizes its foundations. For this reason, the Holy Qur’an addressed this issue to protect the feelings of Muslims, safeguard the society, and preserve its cohesion by preventing disputes and conflicts and promoting unity.

This study aims to clarify the concept of mockery, its various forms and manifestations, and the role of the Qur’an and Sunnah in highlighting its dangers and offering solutions. The research identifies the relevant Qur’anic and Prophetic texts in which the concept of mockery is mentioned. The study adopts an objective methodology by analyzing the term, its meanings, implications, and deeper significance.

The study reached several important findings, most notably: mockery is mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah in various forms, including religious mockery and mockery directed at individuals and communities. It is an offensive act that belittles and degrades human dignity. The Qur’an strictly forbids mockery and warns against it. Both the Qur’an and the Prophetic Sunnah deal with the issue by condemning those who engage in it, describing them as hypocrites. The most severe form of mockery is that which targets the religion of Allah.

The study recommends returning to the Book of Allah and the purified Sunnah, adhering to divine guidance, respecting others, and refraining from mocking them, as Islam has honored all human beings. It emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of mockery, discouraging people from belittling or humiliating others, and highlighting its serious consequences.
