Abstract

Semantic ambiguity is one of the most problematic issues in semantics, and in this research, I will try to shed light on this problem and then I will try to clarify it more broadly by expanding the tools of the sentence as an attempt to remove the ambiguity of words and sentences. The research according to the descriptive approach discusses the expansion of sentence components to remove the ambiguity of the meaning of the word and sentence, and we also study the importance of pragmatics. The research, in addition to the introduction and results, consists of two axes: The first axis deals in general with ambiguity and its causes, and covers the following topics: ambiguity, causes of ambiguity, types of ambiguity, and the intended use of ambiguity. The second axis deals with the technique of expanding the vocabulary of sentence components to remove ambiguity according to the following titles: sentence expansion, sentence and its components, expansion of sentence components, function of expansion in the sentence, models of expanded sentences. In conclusion, the research was summarized in Arabic and English, and finally we concluded that the secondary components of the sentence play an important role in transforming the ambiguous sentence into a clear sentence in spoken and written language.
