Abstract

Speech acts are at the core of pragmatic linguistics. In its early inception, pragmatics was synonymous with what is known as speech acts, as these acts formed the foundation upon which pragmatics was built. The theory of speech acts was established by the philosopher Austin and later developed by his student Cyril. Speech acts are three-dimensional; they are verbal actions with performative power and specific influential goals. I applied Austin's and Searle's classifications to the speech of Ziyad ibn Abih, and I divided the research into two sections: Chapter One: Speech Acts According to Austin in the Performative Speech, which included five acts that were realized in the speech: acts of judgment, acts of decision, acts of commitment, acts of behavior, and acts of clarification. The second section: Speech acts according to Searle in the petra sermon, which includes four acts: directives or commands, commissives or commitments, expressives or utterances, and declarations.
