There has been considerable debate regarding whether reception theory constitutes a theory, an independent methodology, or a critical activity. This theory is considered a modern approach in literary criticism, placing significant emphasis on the reader and making them central to the decision-making process, based on the belief that the reader finds new meaning in the text and keeps it alive. This theory draws its origins from several other methodologies, particularly hermeneutics and deconstruction, and emerged in the 1960s. Robert Jauss (1921–1997) and Wolfgang Iser (1926–2007) were among its most prominent proponents. While this theory is important in Kurdish studies, research on it is limited, hence the need for this study. The research was conducted using both descriptive and analytical methods. This study aims to analyze the poetic texts of Hisham Tahir Barzinji in light of the principles of this theory. The research consists of an abstract, an introduction, two main sections, a conclusion, and a list of references. The first section addresses the terminology, concepts, definitions, history, and principles of reception theory, while the second section examines the application of reception theory to the poet's work.
