This research addresses the simile imagery in the poetry of Maghamis bin Daghir Al-Hilli, through analyzing how he uses simile as a rhetorical tool to enrich poetic texts and create artistic images that reflect the depth of his poetic experience. Maghamis bin Daghir Al-Hilli employed simile primarily to construct poetic imagery, with its elements intertwining with psychological and cultural connotations, which added both aesthetic and conceptual dimensions to his poetry His similes were at times innovative, and at other times traditional, reflecting a balance between adherence to Arab poetic heritage and the pursuit of renewal in poetic expression. The simile in his poetry was not merely a decorative device, but rather an expressive means that contributed to conveying complex meanings and emotions..
He drew inspiration from Iraqi nature and folk heritage to depict poetic images that reflect people's lives, customs, and local traditions. The influence of Arab heritage was also evident in his use of simile, as he employed inherited elements and reshaped them to suit his personal poetic vision.
Simile gains a special dimension in his poetry when he addresses the biographies of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), where religious emotion intertwines with poetic imagination. Love and admiration are transformed into vivid portraits that convey reverence and sanctity. In this context, the poet does not settle for mere praise, but rather embodies the values and historical stances of Ahl al-Bayt in poetic scenes that evoke heroism, sacrifice, and faith—touching the recipient’s emotions and soul Hence, the importance of studying the artistic image in poetry focused on Ahl al-Bayt lies in understanding how the poetic-faithful vision transforms these luminous figures into eternal symbols that transcend the boundaries of time and place.
