Abstract

This research aims to analyze the Qur'anic discourse in this surah using argumentative and pragmatic approaches to uncover the rhetorical and linguistic techniques used to achieve the surah's objectives. The most notable findings are:

First, Surah Al-Kawthar stands out as a Qur'anic discourse rich in argumentative and pragmatic techniques.

Second, argumentativeness appears in Surah Al-Kawthar through emphasizing the blessings bestowed by God upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and responding to skeptics and mockers.

Third, pragmatics reflects a profound dimension in the use of Qur'anic language to achieve the desired impact on the addressee.

Fourth, an analysis of these aspects demonstrates the surah's strength and influence in strengthening faith and conveying the divine message in an eloquent and moving style.

Fifth: The pragmatics of Surah Al-Kawthar is evident in the context in which it was revealed, as it was a response to those who mocked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and described him as abtar (cut off lineage).

Sixth: The scholars' disagreement over the interpretation of the text leads to the pragmatics of the discourse and the extent of its impact on the recipient. We see that scholars have differed in their understanding of the intended meanings of the Quranic text, which causes variations in people's comprehension of these texts. This is what pragmatics seeks to achieve.
