Abstract

Eastern literature and eastern philosophy argue that contrasts are a necessity in order to understand the beings in the universe. In other words, for us to perceive the presence of black, white must also be present. The art of contrast, created based on this idea, is based on the understanding that opposites will express a whole more effectively and meaningfully. It stands out as one of the literary arts that poets frequently use and embrace with great pleasure, especially in Divan literature. At the heart of the art of contrast is bringing together words or ideas with opposite meanings. In clear terms, it can be defined as the art of expressing two completely opposite ideas at the same time. When the ghazals of Fuzuli, one of the great poets of the 16th century, are examined, unique examples of this art are frequently encountered; The poet increases the expressive power in his couplets with the contrasts in meaning between both concepts and objects. This method not only increases the aesthetic value of poetry, but also attracts attention as a tool that deepens and enriches the world of meaning.
