Abstract

The study aims to identify The effectiveness of the Kemp model in acquiring scientific concepts in science for basic school students. To achieve the objectives and hypotheses of the study, the researcher followed the experimental method in his study procedure and adopted the experimental design with partial control for the two study groups. The experiment was conducted in the first semester of the academic year (2024-2025) for eighth grade students in the school (Shahid Iskandar) belonging to the Erbil Center Directorate after being deliberately selected among the schools of the research population. The study sample was randomly selected, with (30) students in the experimental group who studied Science according to the Kemp model, and (29) students in the control group who studied the same subject in the traditional way.

As for the research tool, the tool was a multiple-choice test designed to assess the acquisition of scientific concepts. It included 45 items distributed across three levels (definition, discrimination, and application). The validity of the test was confirmed, and item difficulty, ease, discrimination indices, and the effectiveness of distractors were calculated. The reliability of the test was determined using the Kuder-Richardson method and test-retest procedures.

After completing the experiment, the results showed a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of students in the experimental and control groups on the scientific concepts acquisition test the results favored the experimental group taught according to the Kemp model.

Considering these findings, the researcher reached several conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions for future research.
