Abstract

The Turkish element represented the vast majority in the Ghaznavid army, and great figures emerged in the Ghaznavid military establishment who assumed administrative and military positions due to their strength and courage. Among these figures is Al-Tuntash the Great, who grew up under the confines of the Ghaznavid emirate, as he began his military career with Sultan Mahmoud of Ghaznavid, and later became one of His army commanders and chamberlains, and he accompanied him in most of his wars and conquests, as he was characterized by courage, boldness, obedience, and military skill for that. The Sultan entrusted his chamberlain, Al-Tuntash the Great, with command of the armies in many battles to conquer countries and spread Islam. This study began with a historical overview of the Ghaznavid emirate and its most prominent powerful sultans. Then we touched on the life of Al-Tuntash the Great and determined his name. We also discussed his nickname, nickname, and upbringing, and we talked about his political and military role in The Ghaznavid emirate, starting with the service of Sultan Mahmoud Al-Ghaznawi and his conquests in the Indian subcontinent and the Islamic East, and concluding with the Battle of Dabusiya in Transoxiana, which led to his death in 423 AH/1032 AD.
