Abstract

The research aims to evaluate researches on methods of teaching social studies published in the Journal of the College of Basic Education, University of Babylon. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher prepared a “list of standards” in accordance with the American Psychological Association for the purpose of obtaining information about the research targeted by the researcher. For all issues of the magazine for the year 2022, the list of standards was distributed into (7 areas). It was divided into criteria (the field of the title), (the field of citation), (the field of documenting sources in the text), (the field of documenting sources in the list of sources), (the field of citation), and (the field of page arrangement), and (the field of font type and size), which the researchers seek to know the conformity of the targeted research with, which amounted to a total of (52) standards distributed across the areas of the list of standards. The researchers verified its validity and consistency in light of its presentation to experts and arbitrators in the field of educational and psychological sciences and general and specialized teaching methods. The researchers relied on their opinions and corrections regarding the fields of the list and its criteria and the formulation of each criterion, as well as the distribution of the scale’s grades, which was quadripartite, distributed in ascending order and according to the following: “(Not available), weighted (0), (Weakly available), weighted (1), (Available.” (to a moderate degree) weighing (2)", (to a large extent) weighing (3)". After collecting data and classifying it on the basis of the aforementioned alternatives, the researchers concluded that there is no application of the standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) in the research published in issues of the magazine, in addition to the presence of a discrepancy in some standards and that this discrepancy is hardly an indication of the quality of the research. Based on the above, the researchers recommended the need to pay attention to the Journal of the College of Basic Education for Educational and Human Sciences, by applying these standards in evaluating the educational research published in the journal when it is prepared for publication.
