Abstract

The research aims to identify:

1- The effectiveness of the strategy (harvesting ideas) and the regular method used in developing creative thinking among eleventh grade scientific students.

  1. Differences between the students of the experimental group that studied on the basis of the strategy (harvesting ideas) and the students of the control group that studied on the basis of the regular method used in the post-test of the creative thinking scale. The research population was represented by eleventh grade female students at Shorsh Preparatory School in the center of Erbil Governorate. The sample included (60) students with using a simple random method and they were distributed into two groups: an experimental group that included (30) students. They studied on the basis of the strategy of harvesting ideas. The control group included (30). They studied on the basis of the regular method used in teaching. The research tool was determined from the creative thinking scale, which includes three dimensions (change and adaptation, planning and implementation, generation and originality).

The research sample included (60) students in the eleventh scientific grade, distributed into two academic divisions. One of the two divisions represented the experimental group and consisted of (30) female students, and the other division represented the control group, consisting of (30) female students. The study tools consisted of the creative thinking scale.

The scale consists of (46) items. The researcher conducted equality and homogeneity in the variables (age, parents’ degree, creative thinking, and intelligence). After implementing the educational program and conducting post-tests, the data was collected and processed using appropriate statistical means, represented by the t-test for correlated samples and independent samples.

The results revealed the effectiveness of harvesting ideas strategy in developing creative thinking among middle school students. Additionally, this strategy helps students to be more motivated and be more active and participate in the lesson. Finally, the study recommended to all the teachers who teach chemistry in different levels to use the strategy of harvesting idea to improve creative thinking among female students.

The study recommended the need to encourage chemistry teachers at different stages of education to use the strategy of harvesting ideas in teaching chemistry to develop creative thinking among female students.
