Abstract

This research examines the role of Sheldon Adelson in supporting Israeli policy toward the Palestinian issue during the period (2008-2018), through a historical study of his economic career, his role in supporting the American Zionist lobby, and his influence on political positions supportive of Israel. It also examines Adelson’s use of his wealth and political relations in supporting Zionist institutions and organizations, as well as his role in supporting Donald Trump and his policies toward the Palestinian issue, particularly the decision to move the American embassy to Jerusalem in 2017. The research adopts the historical approach by tracing events and analyzing them within their chronological context, in order to reveal the relationship between economic influence and political impact in shaping positions related to the Palestinian issue.

The study indicates that this support had a tangible impact in tipping the scales toward policies favoring Israel—most notably during the administration of President Donald Trump, which took pivotal decisions regarding the Palestinian cause, such as recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and relocating the U.S. embassy there in 2018. Overall, the study underscores that individuals with significant financial and political influence can reach the inner circles of U.S. decision-making. The case of the Adelsons serves as a notable example of how wealth can be leveraged to shape foreign policy, with direct repercussions for the Palestinian cause and its future.
