This study examines the impact of gamification learning strategies on motivation and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learner retention in Iraqi secondary schools. In light of increasing implementation of technology and interactive learning methods in modern education, gamification has emerged as a promising approach that enhances student motivation and academic achievement. The research investigates the effects of incorporating game design features—points, badges, competition, and feedback—on the motivation to learn English among students and their retention of language structures and vocabulary in the long run. A mixed-methods approach was taken, consisting of quantitative surveys to measure motivation levels and language tests to record retention, and qualitative teacher and student interviews. Findings reflect that gamified learning significantly enhances students' intrinsic motivation, enhances their positive attitude toward learning English, and maintains language longer. The study concludes with pedagogical implications for integrating gamification effectively into the EFL curriculum of Iraqi secondary school.
