Immoral manifestations in the context of modern development: An analytical study of their causes, effects, and ways to confront them

Abstract

In light of the social transformations and modern technological developments of this era, which have led to significant changes in the values and behaviors of society in general, and youth in particular, these transformations have resulted in the emergence of new unethical practices in Iraqi society or the evolution of previously existing unethical practices to more complex levels. This study addresses the main reasons behind these phenomena, including individual, social, economic, and political factors, and examines their impacts on contemporary economic, social, technological, and environmental domains. A detailed analysis of the repercussions of these practices is provided, both at the individual and societal levels, through the use of a descriptive-analytical approach. Additionally, this study reviews methods of confrontation and ways to mitigate these phenomena by enhancing the moral education of Iraqi society and activating the role of educational institutions through the enforcement of deterrent laws against unethical practices, as well as instilling values of honesty, integrity, and transparency in interactions. The study also discusses the anticipated changes in the value systems of society and the role of technology in promoting ethics in the future.

The analyses presented in this research indicate that the ethical challenges facing contemporary societies require multidimensional approaches—ones that rely on the interplay between individuals, institutions, and public policy. Furthermore, rapid social and technological changes necessitate a re-examination of traditional value systems, urging the adoption of an ethical framework that is more flexible and capable of adapting to new contexts. It is essential that all educational and media institutions work to foster ethical awareness among individuals, with a particular focus on instilling values ​​of integrity and responsibility from an early stage.
